Two Dual County League wins in a row may just put the Westford Academy boys basketball team back on track.

Tom McArdle (15 points) drilled four key free throws down the stretch to help the Ghosts win their first DCL road game with a 47-40 victory over Concord-Carlisle last Friday night.

The victory overshadowed a poor shooting night for the Ghosts, who trailed at the end of the half (18-13) and who shot just 14 for 51 from the floor for the game.

"It wasn't a great offensive game," said WA head coach Ed Scollan. "We shot poorly from the floor and never really got going. However, when it counted we did what we had to by playing good defense and by hitting key free throws."

Sean Goodrich also hit two big free throws and finished the night with 10 rebounds. Oliver Kell also played well for Westford.

During the previous game, Westford beat Weston by a score of 71-46.

Pat Mulroy was the game's high-scorer with 19 points. Goodrich added 17 and McArdle contributed 11 points in the victory. Westford was also sparked by its bench as Kell, John Turkovich, Alex Chase, James Petersen and Brian Schmidtberg.

Westford shot 50 percent from the floor (28 for 56) and were an impressive 41 percent from the three-point line
9 for 22) and 86 percent from the foul line (6 for 7).

"It was a win that we needed as we got back into league play after the holiday tournament," said Scollan. "Hopefully this will spark us and carry over into the next few games."

After a slow start this season, the Westford Academy boys basketball team has won five of its last games.

Westford defeated Bedford Tuesday night by a score of 64-59. The Ghost's record is now 4-4 in the Dual County League and 6-6 overall.

Sean Goodrich scored 18 points, had seven rebounds and an incredible nine blocks in the victory over Bedford. Pat Mulroy poured in 16 points, all in the second half, and was 7 for 8 from the free throw line.

Tom McArdle also netted 16 points, and Chris McCarthy dished off seven assists.

The Grey Ghosts recorded two more victories last week, including a 75-63 non-league victory over the Chelmsford Lions on Sunday.

Westford led by just three at the end of the first half (29-26) but pulled away in the final minutes to get the victory.

"The traditional non-league game between Westford and Chelmsford is always a great take," said WA head coach Ed Scollan. "We have been doing it for years and they are always close games. This year was the same, and we were fortunate to pull away near the end for the victory."

Goodrich (24 points), Oliver Kell (14 points) and McArdle (13 points) all combined to score 30 second half points.

"I thought we played better in the second half, hitting some key baskets and playing good defense," said Scollan. "Our bench was solid, with Pat Mulroy hitting a few three-pointers and Rob DeMagistris playing solid defense by picking up a few charge calls against Chelmsford."

The Grey Ghosts also took care of Dual County League opponent Wayland, winning 66-38.

Goodrich played another strong game, scoring 22 points while grabbing seven rebounds. He also opened the game with a crowd-pleasing slam dunk. McArdle also played well once again, pouring in 16 points.

"This was a good team effort throughout," said Scollan. "We had a strong beginning by the starters and strong bench play throughout the game. We increased the lead after halftime, and it allowed everyone to contribute."
