After a 29-29 halftime tie, LS pulled away slowly in the seconds half until the Ghosts fought back. LS led 65-62 with 1:21 remaining, but WA continued to hang around with steals and some key baskets. The score was 73-70 with 11 seconds left when Westford missed a three, but Sean Goodrich rebounded and scored as the buzzer sounded.

Sean Goodrich led Westford scorers with 23 points, while Tom McArdle had 17, and Oliver Kell added 13.

Jamel Wilson from Lincoln was game high scorer with 32 points.


The Ghosts travel to Boston Latin for the make-up tomorrow.

WA 67 BL 66

Sean Goodrich had 20 points, John Turkovich hit a key free throw at the end and WA kept its tournament hopes alive with its second 1 point game within 24 hours. Tom McArdle had 12 while Pat Mulroy returned into the line-up and added 10 points. Latin had a last second shot disallowed on a travel violation and the Ghost escaped with the win.

WA 70 Weston 50


The Grey Ghosts (8-8) remained alive for a Div. 2 North tournament berth with a DCL road win in Weston.

The Ghosts erupted for 42 first-half points to lead by 19, and then cruised the rest of the way.

Pat Mulroy had the big game for Westford, scoring 14 points to go with 9 rebounds. Sean Goodrich also reached double figures with 10 points, Oliver Kell added 9 points and 9 rebounds, and Chris McCarthy contributed 8 points and 6 assists.

WA boys basketball making late-season run

Beat Boston Latin, Weston


After losing a heartbreaker to Lincoln-Sudbury by one point at home last Tuesday, the WA boys basketball team came back the next day and took on Boston Latin in a makeup game.

This time, the game ended in the Ghosts' favor. Westford walked away with a huge 67-66 win last Wednesday evening.

Turkovich (nine points) hit the game-winning free throw with 21 seconds left to play to give Westford a much needed victory.

Goodrich was the team's high scorer with 20 points. Also having strong offensive performances were Tom McArdle with 12 points and Pat Mulroy, who poured in 10.

"It was an exciting 24 hours of basketball from the disappointment of losing to L-S by one at home, to the excitement of beating Boston Latin by one on the road," said Westford head coach Ed Scollan. "It was a credit to the team that they bounced back within such a short period of time."

Last Friday night the WA boys basketball team made the trip to Weston to take on the Wildcats.

When it was all said and done, the Grey Ghosts came away with a 20-point victory (70-50).

Mulroy scored 14 points and teammates Goodrich and Kell each added nine points apiece. Also play key roles in the game were Chris McCarthy, Jim Peterson and Rob DeMagistris, who all contributed eight points each.

With the victory, Westford improved to 7-6 in the Dual County League (9-8 overall).





WA 69 CC 50


The Grey Ghost (9-8 overall) jumped above the .500 mark for the first time, as Oliver Kell John Turkovich and Sean Goodrich combined for 45 points in a DCL win over Concord-Carlisle at Westford Academy.

Kell went for 19 points, Turkovich added 15 and Goodrich 11 as Westford led 34-23 at the half and never looked back. Chris McCarthy also played well, scoring 7 and dishing out 6 assists.

For Concord-Carlisle (5-12), Dave Stronach had 10 points, Jeff Nolet added 9, and both Josh Lee and David Button had 8 points each.

AB 58 WA 55

WA lost to AB 58-55 in a hard fought DCL battle in Acton. The Ghosts fell behind at half (30-18) but battled back to close the gap within two. Oliver Kell led all scorers with 17 points while Sean Goodrich and Tom McArdle each had 12. Sean Goodrich also had a season high 11 blocks. The loss puts the Ghosts at 9-9 overall. They must win one of their two remaining games to qualify for the Division II North Tournament.The win gives Acton at least a share of the league title with a 13-1 league record.

WA 70 Wayland 47



Westford bounced back after a tough Acton defeat and defeated Wayland 70-47 to qualify for the Division II North Tournament. Westford started strong and led 39-22 at the half. John Turkovich led all scorers with 15 points, while Sean Goodrich (14), Tom McArdle (12), and Chris McCarthy (10) rounded out the Ghost scoring.

GOODRICH AND MCARDLE SELECTED AS DCL ALL-STARS

Sean Goodrich and Tom McArdle were both recently recognized as All-Stars by the DCL coaches and will play in the DCL All-Star game at Concord-Carlisle HS on February 19, 2005 at 7:30pm.

Sean Goodrich, a 6'3" Senior center averages 16 points per game while grabbing 8 rebounds. He is 6th in the league in scoring. Tom McArdle, a senior forward captain, is averaging 10.6 points per game.

Sean Goodrich will also participate in the Slam Dunk contest at half-time.

Ghosts Finish Strong

WA 63 Bedford 57

The Ghosts ended their regular season (and Senior Night) on a positive note with a 63-57 win over visiting Bedford. Sean Goodrich led all scorers with 20 points (9 Rebounds), while Oliver Kell (17 points), John Turkovich (10 points), Tom McArdle (8 points) and Pat Mulro (8 points) helped a well-balanced Ghost attack. Westford finishes the 9-7 (DCL) and 11-9 (overall). Westford led at the half (35-27) and never looked back.

Coach Scollan stated "I am very proud and excited for this team. They never stopped practicing and playing hard, even at the 1-5 lowpoint. After that they went 10-4, competing hard in every game. We are looking forward to the tournament with the hope of keeping the run going."

Tournament Pairings Announced

Westford Academy will travel to Woburn High School on Tuesday, March 1, (7:00pm start) for the opening round of the Division II North MIAA Basketball Tournament. Woburn finished 13-7 (Middlesex League) while WA finished 11-9 (Dual County League).
