As a result of no school today, December 9, 2005, there will be no JV basketball practice tonight.


JAMBOREE RE-SCHEDULED

The Groton-Dunstable High School Jamboree will be held tomorrow, December 10, 2005 at Groton-Dunstable High School. Westford Academy will be playing Maynard High School at 12:30pm. (Players: We will be wearing DARK Uniforms)

WA ATHLETIC BOOSTERS SUPPORT TEAM

The Westford Academy Athletic Boosters recently approved a donation to the WA Basketball program. They generously approved the purchase of a camcorder, a DVD Burner, and a supply of DVD's. This will allow all games to be recorded and burned on DVD's. MANY THANKS to all WA Athletic Boosters for their help and support!

WA Opens at Home

The 2005-2006 season begins tonight with a home opener against Wayland. The JV's tip off at 4:00 with the Varsity to follow at 5:30pm.

OPENING NIGHT WIN

WA (1-0) defeated Wayland (0-1) 63-60 in opening night DCL action. Senior Alex Chase led WA scores with 15 points while adding 12 rebounds. Senior Captain Rob DeMagistris hit for 4 treys and had 14 points. Junior forward Brian Schmidtberg also had 14 points with a solid effort. Freshmen Alex Haines had 7 points and added 15 Rebounds with 4 blocks in his first varsity game. Junior guard Colin McLaughlin added 10 points to and 5 rebounds. The Ghosts play at Lincoln Sudbury on Tuesday, December 20, 2005.

SALVATION ARMY COMMUNITY SERVICE

On Saturday, December 17, 2005, the WA Varsity Basketball Team will be "Ringing-the-Bell" at Market Basket in Westford for the Salvation Army from 9:00am to 4:00pm. It is a great tradition (15 years) and we usually raise over a $1,000.00. Please stop by and make a small donation if you have a chance and are in the area!

WA FALLS TO LINCOLN SUDBURY

WA (1-1) lost to Lincoln Sudbury (2-1), 68-51 in DCL action. The Ghosts were led by freshman Peter Lynch with 9 points followed by senior Alex Chase with 7. Westford hosts Acton Friday night, December 23, with a 6:00/7:30 start.

AB TOPS WA

Acton (2-2) defeated WA (1-2) 59-50 in a game hosted by the Ghosts. Alex Chase was high scorer with 13 points, while Rob DeMagistris added 11. Brian Schmidtberg chipped in with 9 pints and 7 rebounds. The Ghost start the Lowell Holiday Tournament on Tuesday, December 27, with a 3:00 game against Billerica at Lowell High School.

Holiday Alumni Game

The Alumni continues to dominate in this tradational holiday classic. All Alumni arrived early for proper warm-up drills, and then played for the entire two hours without a break. Everyone was in great playing shape, as evidenced by the photo on the left!

TRI-MVP's ANNOUNCED

For the first time in Westford Academy Baskeball Alumni history, there was a three way tie in MVP voting for this holiday classic event. Judges were amazed at the speed and defensive ability of the three selected. Can you name them (and graduation year) from the photo on the left?

OPENING ROUND: WA DEFEATS BILLERICA

WA defeated Billerica in first round Holiday Tournament action, 70-58. Senior Alex Chase led all scorers with 24 points, including 16 for 18 from the free throw line. Junior Brian Schmidtberg added 14 points with 10 Rebounds. Kellen Regan (10 points) and Alex Haines (11 points and 16 rebounds) also played well. The Ghosts play the defending 2004 Lowell Holiday Tournament champions, Pelham, NH High School at 8:15pm. Westford Academy will host all 2nd round tournament games.

GHOST FALL IN 2nd ROUND ACTION

Pelham 81 Westford 67

The Grey Ghosts (2-3) were led by freshman Alex Haines who scored 18 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked three shots and junior Brian Schmidtberg who scored 13 points and had eight rebounds. The Ghosts play Londonderry, NH (at Billerica High School) on Friday night, (December 30) at 6:30 in final round action of the Lowell Holiday Tournament.




GHOSTS REBOUND IN CONSOLATION GAME

WA 74 Londonderry, NH 68

Freshman Alex Haines scored with 6:35 left in the game, breaking a 51-51 tie, and Westford held the lead to take third place in the 8 team Lowell Holiday Tournament. Westford (3-3), hit 15 consecutive free-throws and was 34-44 from the free throw line, the major difference in the game.
Junior Forward Brian Schmidtberg (24 points) and Senior Alex Chase (20 points), and Senior Captain Rob DeMagistris (11 points) led the Ghosts in scoring.

Brian Schmidtberg was selected to the All-Tournament All-Star team.
