Newton Game Postponed

The game against Newton South has been postponed until tomorrow, January 4, 2005, 4:00/5:30pm.


WA FALLS IN DCL PLAY

Westford Academy (3-4) lost to Newton South (5-2) 68-62 in a DCL game at Newton. The Ghosts trailed by 12 at half (39-27)but rallied in the 2nd half to take a two point lead with 7 minutes left. Newton hit 18 from 30 from the Free Throw line while Westford went 5 for 7.

Senior Captain Rob DeMagistris led WA scorers with 19 points while Senior Alex Chase added 16. Freshman Alex Haines added 12 points, 13 Rebounds, and 7 Blocks.

The Ghosts host Boston Latin (6/7:30) Friday night (January 6, 2005).

OVERTIME VICTORY OVER BOSTON LATIN

Colin McLaughlin nailed a three to tie the game in regulation, 56-56, and the Ghosts prevailed in overtime to take a thrilling 68-64 win over visiting Boston Latin (3-2 DCL, 5-3 overall). Westford (2-3 DCL, 4-4) was led by junior Brian Schmidtberg with 16 points (8 Rebounds). Alex Chase added 8 points (6 Rebounds, 4 assists)while Colin McLaughlin (9 points) and Rob DeMagistris (7 points)contributed to a balanced attack. Freshmen Peter Lynch (14 points, 7 Rebounds, and 5 blocks) and Alex Haines (5 points, 6 Rebounds, and 7 blocks) both played well. Kellen Regan, Justin Lawson, Ryan Keele, Kyle McNiff, Collin Cussano, and Scott Shackleton all came off the bench to spark a great first-half comeback!



WESTON DEFEATS WA

Weston came out strong and never looked back, defeating Westford 63-44. Brian Schmidtberg was Westford's high scorer with 11 points while adding 8 rebounds. Westford travels to Concord for a game on Friday night (January 13) at 6:00/7:30.

CONCORD DEFEATS WA

Concord-Carlisle 72 Westford 57

Concord-Carlisle pulled back to .500 at 5-5 overall (4-4 DCL) with this Dual County League win over Westford (4-6) in Concord.

For the Grey Ghosts, Brian Schmidtberg (6 rebounds) and Peter Lynch (8 rebounds) each had a team-high 13 points, Rob DeMagistris added 9 points, and Alex Haynes chipped in with 8 points and 9 rebounds.



Freshmen Spark WA

Westford 60 Chelmsford 56

The freshmen tandem of Peter Lynch and Alex Haines combined for 25 points and the Westford Academy boys basketball team held off stubborn Chelmsford, 60-56, during a non-league meeting last night in Chelmsford.

Westford (5-6) led 35-25 at the half, but Chelmsford rallied to go ahead 50-48 with 2:20 remaining.

The Grey Ghosts retook the lead and claimed the win thanks to solid free throw shooting and solid size from the likes of the 6-foot-5 Lynch (15 points), 6-foot-4 junior Brian Schmidtberg (12 points) and the 6-foot-4 Haines (10 points).

BEDFORD OVER WA

Bedford (9-1) defeated WA (5-7) 68-47 in DCL action. Brian Schmidtberg led all WA scorers with 14 points while Rob DeMagistris added 10.

WAYLAND DOWNS WESTFORD

Wayland defeats WA, 60-51.
Westford was down at the half, 37-28, and then attempted a 2nd half comeback. It reached within 6, but Wayland played well down the stretch. Rob DeMagistris had 15 points while Alex Haines added 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocks for the Ghosts.


3rd Grade Clinic a Success!

The WA Varsity conducted a clinic for the 3rd Grade Recreational teams. Over 75 participated in the clinic, which included station instruction and a scrimmage. Many thanks to Mr. Ken Teal and Mr. Bernie Prusaczyk for organizing the event.

LS TOPS WA

Lincoln Sudbury was up 28-20 at halftime and never looked back in a 64-50 win over WA. No Westford players scored in double figures. Peter Lynch had 9 points (6 rebounds), Alex Haines added 8 points (9 rebounds), while Kellen Regan and Scott Shackleton both had 7 points.

AB OVER WA

A close first half, 32-32, but Acton went on a major run in the 2nd half to win 78-59. Peter Lynch was high scorer with 16 points, while Brian Schmidtberg and Alex Haines each added 14.
