2019-2020 Tryout Information:
1. Mandatory meeting is Tuesday, October 1st in room 245 at 2pm.
2. All information will be given in this brief - ten minute meeting.
In order to tryout, you must do all three of the following:
Sign ups. Click here to register. Please do this ASAP so coaches can get organized.
You must have a physical on file that is valid and updated with the nurse. It is your responsibility to double check this.
You will also need to sign up with the WA Athletic Department for winter sports. Click on this link to take you to the Family ID sign up page. I believe this link will open in October. https://www.familyid.com/westford-public-schools. You can also get to the Family ID page via the WA Athletic web page at www.wagreyghosts.com. This must be completed even if you completed one in the fall.
You cannot try out if you are missing any of the above steps.
Note to Alumni and
Friends of WA Basketball:
It is hard to believe that the 2019-2020 school year is in session. It is equally hard to believe that the Westford Academy Boys' basketball team begins its fall season this weekend. After a great and surprising summer, we are looking forward to a challenging fall especially since we will be without some of our key players as they are playing football or soccer.
This upcoming season looks to be refreshing one with many new faces and new challenges. There will be a lot of competition for spots within each of the levels. No doubt it will be a tough year of evaluations at tryouts.
Having said that, the players have several goals they are working toward - a winning record, a tournament berth, and winning the DCL Large. None of the players on the team have seen the tournament as it has been three years since the basketball team has been in the tournament, so they are driven, motivated, and excited to embark on the new season.
Below we have identified some fantastic opportunities that will hopefully highlight a great season. Some of these opportunities will need your help.
At Acton-Boxboro on Friday, December 13th at 5:30pm. Acton-Boxboro is coming off a tremendous season and is looking to repeat as DCL Large Champs. (Yes, 5:30pm. This year we will play double headers with all of our large teams. The first half of the year, the girls will play at 7pm, the second half of the year, the boys will play at 7pm.)
Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union Greater Lowell Holiday Tournament:
We will play in the IAABO Board 95 sponsored annual holiday tournament again this year at Lowell Catholic High School. This will be held December 27th-December 30th. We invite you to come.
An Alumni Invite:
On Friday, January 24, 2020 (vs DCL rival, Acton-Boxboro) we will hold an Alumni night for all Westford Academy players and coaches. We would love for all of you to be there. If you could take a few minutes to fill out this form, this would give us a head start in preparing that evening (we plan on ordering alumni shirts - so sign up and give us your size today!), Feel free to spread the word and this email. The more the better!
On Friday, February 7, 2020, vs Cambridge Rindge and Latin at 7pm we will honor our seniors for all that they have accomplished and for all that they have given to the Westford Academy Boys' Basketball program.
From time to time we get requests on how to help with the program to ease the financial burden. Here are a few ways to help defray costs for the team.
1. Fall League. We are now in our fourth year of organizing and running our fall league. It started with 16 teams at Westford Academy (we are now up to 32 teams). We now play all our games at Mill Works AND Westford Academy. As this is a small fundraiser, we are seeking help to offset the cost of the championship shirts for the winners of each of the three divisions. Sponsorship request: $600
2. The fifth annual Ed Scollan/IAABO Board 95 preseason tournament is coming in November 23rd and 24th. This tournament also began with 16 teams at Westford Academy and, like the fall, we are now up to 32 teams (with a waiting list!) at Mill Works. Westford Academy basketball uses this as a small fundraiser while IAABO Board 95 uses this tournament as a way to teach three man techniques. The officials donate their time to the tournament and any money they make at the gate goes to the IAABO Board 95 scholarship fund. Like the fall league, we are seeking to help offset the costs of the championship shirts for the four division winners of this tournament. Sponsorship request: $800
3 I've also attached our annual game program sponsor form. We love donations from our alumni and town businesses as it keeps them connected our program. The monies raised from this are used primarily for our game program but also go towards other important aspects like Hudl (our online video site), and our banquet at the end of the season. Please take a moment to review and if you can, lend support to our upcoming season. Sponsorship request: various levels of sponsorships.
If you should have any interest in helping in any way, please let me know. We always welcome the alumni back!
We look forward to seeing/meeting you on January 24th. Please remember to complete this one minute form!
Thank you again and we hope to see you at some of our games,
WA Hoops Updating Alumni Email Addresses:
Hello Alumni and Family,
As many of you know, from time to time Westford Academy Boys' Basketball likes to send out emails to all our alumni to keep them posted on what is happening with our team.
Westford Academy is moving to a new email system, prompted me to try to find a way to reach out to as many Westford Academy Boys' Basketball Alumni as possible to get accurate and up-to-date email addresses. My hope is to build a great network that will not only help me keep you informed, but if ever needed, I can put former teammates in touch with each other.
Please click here to access the three question form:
WE promise that I will only use these emails to share Westford Academy Boys' Basketball news.
Thank you again for your great support. Please forward this email to your fellow alumni so we can build a great resource for everyone.
